Though with my knowledge, I don't ever remember behavior of immediate neighbours being discussed in that context. However I'm sure the foundations still apply and profiles could be generated to target individuals who choose to opt-in. The problem with ads like those I see people with concerns about on Facebook is that they aren't obviously opt-in. (I just tried finding a relevant ad for me with thumbs up and down and couldn't find one).

As for social networking being just a feature, I'd definitely agree with that. People are the killer app. Without people your app dies. The ability to build social and professional relationships - for exchange of mediums individuals desire - is at the forefront of everything we do.

I do however believe that people do appreciate a separation of concerns in the form of task-centric spaces in which to collaborate with like-minded individuals. This to me is the point at which people do care about privacy. Also that it is highly contextual and individual. Why I believe there are so many privacy studies where people say one thing, yet do another.Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12170572784481628483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6569681.post-56487690694260571402008-09-03T18:28:00.000-07:002008-09-03T18:28:00.000-07:00"Andrew said that he thought that what was mo..."Andrew said that he thought that what was most likely is that most money would be made from understanding an individual in a network and their immediate neighborhood."

Give it another year or so when the mobile platform (iPhone), local content(outside.in, yelp) & location come together...
